„RITA” – the fall round of the grant competition

The Education for Democracy Foundation invites applications to the “Region in Transition” (RITA) Program grant competition. The applications to the fall round are accepted by October 16, 16:00 hrs.


The “Region in Transition” (RITA) Program is an initiative of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation, managed by the Education for Democracy Foundation (FED). The objective of the program is to support democratic and system transformation in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia by sharing Polish experience in that area, as well as participation in shaping new leaders and elites able to act for the benefit of democracy, market economy and civil society.


The program covers the following countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine, and Tajikistan. Grants from the program are available for associations, foundations and organizations established under the state agreements with the Catholic Church that are registered in Poland. The grants can awarded only for cooperation with entities registered and individuals residing in the above-mentioned countries.
The objective of the competition is to select and award grants for the best projects implemented by partners from Poland and its partner organization(s) from at least one of the countries covered by the program. The projects shall contribute to democratic and system transformation of the countries covered by the program. They shall include sharing Polish experience in transformation and cover at least one of the following areas: social problems, welfare, education, development of enterprise, cultural heritage, development and support for the Third Sector, development and support for local government, and development of independent, modern media.


A project can be awarded a grant of up to PLN 40,000. The organization must ensure minimum own contribution of: 15% of the project value (in form of financial in-kind or personal contribution).


The deadline for applications to the fall round of the competition is on October 16, at 16:00 hrs. The applications shall be submitted only via generator (the paper copy is not required). The detailed terms of applying for a grant are to be found in the Competition Rules at the program website www.programRITA.org

Those interested are invited to attend the information meetings on the principles of participation in the competition to be held on:
• October 4, at 14:00hrs. to16:00 hrs. – in Warsaw, at ul. Nowolipie 9/11 (the Education for Democracy Foundation seat);
• October 6, at 14:00hrs. to16:00 hrs. – in Kraków, at ul. Ignacego Krasickiego 18, I floor.
