Irena Sendler Award For Repairing the World is awarded to teachers who:
- teach and educate in the spirit of tolerance and respect to others,
- play important role in school and local community,
- carry out projects and activities involving children and young people,
- use creative ways of acting.
Teachers can submit their candidatures themselves, as well as be submitted by other individuals, institutions, and organizations. The Award Chapter will choose 10 nominees, and out of them select the winner who will receive the main prize in the amount of PLN 15,000. The applications are accepted by September 30, 2019.
The idea of the Award is to celebrate its patron, Irena Sendlerowa, a civic leader and Righteous among the Nations, who saved lives of over two a thousand Jewish children during WWII. The award was created to support teachers who share values with Irena Sendler, such as tolerance, respect for otherness, responsibility for others and courage, and apply them in their work with students and local community members.
Irena Sendler Award For Repairing the world has been granted since 2006 by the Center for Citizenship Education Foundation and the Children of Holocaust Association in Poland. The partner of the initiative is “Learning Schools” Program.
