Launched in March this year, the “2020 Relief Fund for NGOs and Civic Initiatives” is a program of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation run in cooperation with the Education for Democracy Foundation. Its objective is to offer institutional aid to organizations and support activities responding to problems related to pandemic. The presently announced competition is the third stage of the “Relief Fund”. Earlier the relief was offered to organizations carrying out PAFF programs at the national scale, and to foundations and associations involved in implementation of PAFF programs at the local or regional level. The “Relief Fund’s” budget is one million dollars.
NGO sector plays very important role in solving many social problems at the local and regional level. Organizations involved themselves with devotion and energy in counteracting effects of the pandemic in their local communities. At the same time, they themselves also felt the consequences of COVID-19. Many of them are facing financial problems that force them to reduce scope and scale of their activities.
The competition offers a one-time support that shall allow to meet the most urgent needs of the organization. NGOs can also apply for a grant that will let them implement a project addressed to specified groups of beneficiaries or their local community. Grants will be awarded for activities carried out over the period from September 2020 to June 2021, in the following areas: the quality of education and equal educational opportunities for children and young people, development of local communities and NGO sector, and sharing Polish experience from the period of political transformation and European integration with countries of the former Eastern bloc. The aim of the initiative is to help the organizations maintain their previous achievements, therefore the grant competition is for those who have been in operation for at least three years. The total fund earmarked for the competition is PLN 1 million, and a maximum amount of a single grant is PLN 40,000. No own contribution is requested. Applications can be submitted from July 14 to August 11.
The “2020 Relief Fund for NGOs and Civic Initiatives” is managed by the Education for Democracy Foundation which for many years has been the PAFF’s partner in managing the “Region in Transition” (RITA) Program.
