“The Sector 3.0 Award of Polish-American Freedom Foundation was created to appreciate those organizations that know how to effectively use possibilities offered by dynamic progress in ICT and common access to the Internet. A good social organization not only must have noble intentions but also and foremost must act effectively and be able to communicate the results of its actions and use all available resources also through the Internet. The award offers financial support in the amount of PLN 40,000 and promotion of the winners all over Poland,” says PAFF Program Director Radosław Jasiński.

Winner in 2020 – the Virtual Dream Foundation
Last year the award went to Piotr Łój, the founder of the Virtual Dream Foundation. The Competition Committee awarded the activities of the Foundation related to the use of virtual reality at hospices and old age nursing houses as well as in rehabilitation therapy for people with paralysis. As it turned out, the support was also important in the time of pandemic. The foundation was able to start manufacturing face shields for medical staff.
“The entire award will be spent on purchase of minimum version of haptic gloves that allow to rehabilitate hands while the person is watching movies in VR goggles. I’m negotiating the abilities of the machine available, as the full version of the robot costs over $35,000. However, the money we got as this wonderful award will be enough to buy a minimum version of one glove in its first version appropriate to meet the objectives of my prototype,” Piotr Łój, the founder of Virtual Dream Foundation immediately said after he received the award.

The Competition Committee
This year the Competition Committee will select winners from among the applications submitted by April 9. In this round, the Competition Committee is composed of: Urszula Krasnodębska-Maciuła (ngo.pl/Klon-Jawor), Michał Jaworski (Microsoft), Jacek Królikowski (Information Society Development Foundation), Konrad Ciesiołkiewicz (Orange), the chairperson is Radosław Jasiński representing Polish-American Freedom Foundation.
The Competition Committee will select those organizations which it will consider to be using technology best and will present them as the positive examples of Polish social organizations. The Committee will also vote on the winner or winners who will share the award of PLN 40,000 for their statutory activities.
The award is for those organizations that use ICT tools in their activities aimed at socially useful goals. The Competition Committee will assess the application according to the following criteria:
- The scope and effects of activities implemented using new ICT tools in third sector;
- Experience and achievements in creating, developing, adapting or researching ICT solutions in NGO activities;
- Practical benefits achieved by NGOs as a result of using new technologies;
- Innovative and practical use of the Internet tools, applications, dedicated software and computer systems.
Submitting the applications and the Finals
Applications shall be submitted by April 9.
The winner od the award will be announced on May 19.
