Under the campaign of presenting the best practices in environment protection and adaptation to climate change, on June 12, 2024, representatives of PAFF Programs Managers and the Foundations’ Program Team of took part in a study tour aimed at presentation of pro-ecological activities carried out by Fundacja Fundusz Lokalny Ziemi Płockiej – Młodzi Razem (the Foundation of Płock Region Local Fund – Young People Together), a member of Act Locally Centers Network.
The visit also was an opportunity to learn about activities of A Grain Ecology and Culture Association of Grzybów which is one of the first in Poland villages where ecological agriculture and ecological food production have started.
At the meeting with Płock county mayor Sylwester Ziemkiewicz, President of Fundacja Fundusz Lokalny Ziemi Płockiej – Młodzi Razem Iwona Marczak presented pro-ecological campaigns and actions run in the Płock Region.
The study tour participants visited Radzanów where they learned about the pond tending aimed at protection of biological diversity of ponds in an old park, such as growing water plants, or building a houseboat for ducks and other waterfowl.
Next, they went to Rogów where a Green Nook with numerous melliferous plants have been planted, a gazebo built by the village residents, and an Eco-Island placed in a pond.
The last item on the agenda was a visit to Grzybów where the participants listened to a lecture given by Ewa Smuk-Startenwerth and Peter Stratenwerth, the founders of A Grain Ecology and Culture Association, on the history and activities of the Association and Ecological Folk University. After that they visited the ecological farm, including the creamery and the bakery, run by the Stratenwerths.
The event was organized by the Center of Citizenship Education Foundation in cooperation with the Academy of the Development of Philanthropy in Poland under the Strategy of ecological activities in programs of Polish-American Freedom Foundation for the years 2024-2026”.
