“This year’s Winner – the Federation of Polish Food Banks – not only regularly uses available professional information tools but also invests in creation of their own ones, fully dedicated to their specificity, ICT tools,” Radosław Jasiński, Polish-American Freedom Foundation Program Director and the Chairman of the Prize Committee says.
The objective of the prize is to popularize and support good examples of practical use of digital tools and new media in NGO activities. The prize is in form of a grant of PLN 40,000 for statutory activities and promotion of winners all over Poland.
About the Winner
The Federation of Polish Food Banks is a shared services center for the network of 31 food Banks all over Poland. For thirty years it has been carrying its mission of sourcing food, including products with a short shelf life, so-called non-commercial articles, defectively packed, whose nutritious value and quality do not rise objections, storing those products and its rational distribution among local partner organizations that help people in need, as well as promoting food waste prevention.
The Federation coordinates acquiring and administration and logistics of food coming from various sources and its distribution among a broad spectrum of those in need via numerous channels. It operates as a jointer connecting those two vast areas and thousands of entities operating within them. To integrate these complex processes the Foundation has built extensive information infrastructure that is used for recording food turnover on a large scale, it’s documenting, as well as monitoring the flow of donations, coordinating activities with partners and generating necessary reports and analyses.
The Prize Committee especially appreciated the fact that the Federation of Polish Food Banks has created the foundations for effective and efficient communication with donors by applying data exchange standards based on protocols compatible with those applied by businesses.
