“Children should be seen but not heard” – that precept is still present in mentality of many Poles. Whereas lack of the sense of empowerment is one of the main reasons of young people’s mental crisis. Depression, fear, sense of helplessness are the price we pay for depriving young people of the right to decide on themselves. How can we reverse that dangerous trend?
Ready for the Future is addressed mainly to those who work with young people, teachers and parents. We will discuss how we can support children and teenagers build their sense of co-deciding on their lives and surroundings.
The event will take place online on “Equal Opportunities” Facebook and Goniec.pl on September 17, at 18:00 hrs.
Empowerment is not only a buzzword – it’s a key to healthy development of a young person. It is a sense that you can co-decide on your own life and surrounding. Unfortunately, today young people often feel helpless facing the global challenges and fast-changing reality.
Being adults – parents, teachers, educators – we have a huge, essential role to play. It is up to us whether we create the decision-making, experimenting, and learning on their own mistakes area for young people; whether we give them an opportunity to develop skills allowing them to step into adulthood with self-confidence.
During this-year’s round, we will focus on the following key aspects of building young people’s empowerment:
- You will learn what empowerment is and why it is so important for young people’s development.
- You will hear about the impact of Polish history and experience on the sense of empowerment of subsequent generations.
- Furthermore, you will find the ways in which home and school can support young people develop the feeling of having impact on surrounding reality.
- You will learn effective methods of working with young people, including the proven method worked out by the “Equal Opportunities” program.
- We will discuss the ways of changing the narrative about young people and their empowerment.
That will help you better understand young people’s needs and teach you how to support their development effectively. Combination of scientific knowledge and experience will let you see building partnership relations with young people from different angle, understand the mechanisms and conditions of building young people’s attitudes that will make them ready for the future.
