“These postgraduate courses are launched in order to change Polish education,” noted Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Education Katarzyna Lubnauer during the opening ceremony of Mathematics path at the Master of Education School.
The Master of Education School is a free of charge postgraduate course for teachers set up by the PAFF and UW School of Education. In 2024/25 academic year the postgraduate courses for teachers of Polish and history, educational path, and Mathematics path that was funded by the Ministry of National Education were opened. They met with great interest of teachers from all over Poland.
Katarzyna Lubnauer emphasized that Polish education, especially in science, faces many major reforms. “But we will not change schools if teacher’s attitude, skills and motivation do not change. We want the whole reform to be introduced on the basis of proven and tested teaching methods. We want teachers to know them. Among the objectives of these courses is also to change Polish education,” Katarzyna Lubnauer said. She also expressed the hope that subsequent rounds of further courses for math teachers will be run in the future.
Vice-Rector of University of Warsaw Prof. Maciej Raś also addressed the students of these post-graduate studies. He pointed to the significant role of effective mathematics teaching already at the stage of early education. And he noted that university teachers see that especially clearly. Speaking about the Master of Education School, Prof. Raś added that: “there are no other courses like that in Poland,” and wished the students a lot of satisfaction and development in their studies.
In turn, PAFF and UW School of Education Director Prof. Jolanta Sujecka-Zając noted that the newly opened courses will not force innovations. They will focus on proven, effective solutions that meet the challenges of the contemporary world.
The Master of Education School is an initiative addressed to teachers from all over Poland. It is of a hybrid nature – 9 sessions out of 11 are held online. The outstanding feature of that course is an extensive tutoring program. Each student will have individual meetings with an experienced educator who will help them climb each subsequent step of Teacher’s Development Standards all year round. The innovative solution is also the analysis of recorded lessons conducted by the student, both with regard to teaching and educating/intervention methods used.
In 2024/25 academic year, the course at Mathematics path is addressed to teachers of years 4-8 at elementary school. The path is funded by the grant received from the Ministry of National Education.
