On May 12-15, 2016, the teams representing 10 TAUs that participate in this-year’s edition of the “TAU for community” project met in Gdynia for another session in the workshop series supporting the process of creation of volunteering and community activity sections at their TAUs. During intensive three-day meeting the participants attended workshop sessions as well as visited a number of Tri-City organizations and institutions working with senior volunteers.
During the workshop sessions the teams representing individual TAUs presented their volunteering and community activity groups, shared their experiences, discussed their successes and problems related to first actions undertaken by the groups, and plans for the forthcoming months. Apart from that, all participants took part in the meetings during which representatives of NGOs and institutions serving as models for inspiration, presented their activities and projects.
Also, guided by a senior volunteer, the workshop participants visited the Museum of Emigration in Gdynia and met with the animator of the “Dear Ladies, Gentlemen and the City” project, implemented in cooperation with the Museum under the “Seniors in Action” competition. They also watched the presentation of Social Innovation Lab in Gdynia projects, learned about the activities of the Regional Center of Volunteering in Gdańsk that among other things organizes volunteering actions in the city space. They also met the participants of the “Shipyard is a woman” project, learned about activities of the Pomeranian School of Caretaking Volunteering, and Overactive Foundation who among other things implemented “Manual Factory – knitting with heart” project supported under the “Senior in Actions” competition.
The “TAU for Community” project has been carried out as part of the PAFF’s “Third Age Universities” Program since 2013. Its objective is to lend substantive support to TAUs that want to act for the benefit of their local communities, especially by volunteering. Each round of the project is participated by 10 TAUs. In the current, third, edition of the project, we support creation of volunteering and social activities sections at TAU of Giżycko, Starogard Gdański, Łódż, Żary, Ryki, Międzychód, Szklarska Poręba, Wodzisław Śląski, Przemyśl and Łańcut.
