From August 23 to 25, 2016, the workshops for female mentors of the “Klasna shkola” Program, a counterpart of the “School with Class” initiative, were held in Lvov. So far the schools participating in the program were supported by female and male mentors from Poland but in the third edition the mentors will be their friends from Ukraine, the most involved alumni of the program. The meeting objective was to prepare the mentors to their role.
The meeting started with a discussion on work organization in the new edition of the program – on schedule, types of support for the “Klasna shkola” team and communication. The matters of the mentors’ role and tasks were also discussed. The workshop participants worked on preparing the “Klasna shkoła” code, learnt how to work using the project method, conduct the class and school debates and prepare comments to the students’ projects. The participants also took part in preparing the “Klasna shkola” blog platform – they discussed its functionality and suggested subjects for webinars.
The “Klasna Shkola” is the Ukrainian equivalent to the “School with Class” initiative that has been implemented since 2002 by the Center for Citizenship Education (now the “School with Class” Foundation) and Gazeta Wyborcza daily, in cooperation with the Polish-American Freedom Foundation. The “Klasna Shkola” is co-financed by PAFF as part of the “Region in Transition” (RITA) Program of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation. To date 40 active Ukrainian schools that are supported by Polish mentors have worked on the rules of the good school and introducing innovative teaching methods to everyday work.
