The 2024/25 academic year will bring the Master of Education School, that is a postgraduate course for teachers with at least three-year practice. That is the new offer of the PAFF and UW School of Education.
The Master of Education School is a real treat for those who have already worked out their teaching methods but would like to expand them with some innovative changes supporting both their own and their students’ development. The course will be a part-time one, held in hybrid formula. There will be two on-site sessions in Warsaw and 9 online sessions. In 2024/25 academic year, the course will be held in the following paths:
- Polish studies,
- History and social sciences,
- Managing the Class (for teachers of all subjects).
The two first modules are addressed to teachers who want to introduce educational innovations and also effectively combine both the role of a subject teacher and a person influencing the atmosphere in class or educator. The last module – Managing the Class – is an offer for teachers of all subjects who want to learn methods and techniques that help maintain discipline, intervene effectively, make students follow the rules, that are the aspects necessary for effective conducting their classes.
What will students of the Master of Education School learn? “First of all, many effective and proven work methods and techniques that can be used in class instantly. We will also pay a lot of attention to the philosophy of teaching the subject. We will focus on the teacher’s personal resources, identifying and overcoming the challenges in teaching the subject,” PAFF and UW School of Education program director Magdalena Swat-Pawlicka says.
Under the Managing the Class path, teachers will learn about the best strategies that allow to use various situations to form students’ reactions and develop their social and emotional competencies. “We will show how to avoid schematic methods of constructing a lesson that have been repeated for many years but turned out ineffective and not supporting development of our students. We will focus on three pillars of managing the class – the rules, the routines and teacher’s everyday interventions. We will also consider how to use natural process of forming certain habits for purposeful forming the wanted reactions. Furthermore, we will use the potential of meeting experienced practicians and share our ideas implemented at everyday work,” says the Master of Education School lecturer Magdalena Jurewicz.
Magdalena Swat Pawlicka adds that having completed these postgraduate studies at the Master of Education School teachers will feel they can easily implement their teaching tasks. “All issues arriving in the area of education and building relations work will be consolidated, practiced and will not be and obstacle,” she ensures.
The Master of Education School is addressed to teachers with at least three-year teaching experience over the last 10 years. The course starts on October 18, 2024, and ends on May 25, 2025. The fee is PLN 2,500.
The postgraduate course is run by the School of Education – a joint initiative of Polish-American Freedom Foundation and University of Warsaw. For almost a decade now, the School of Education has also been running the free, full-time postgraduate course, and a scholarship program for those who want to become a teacher.
